Massage therapy has been developed from a different number of sources and there are around 150 types of massage therapies which you can try.



Some popular massage therapies are deep muscle therapy, foot massage, bream, Chinese Tui Na massage, customary Hawaiian massage, neuromuscular therapy, myofascial therapy and many more. These massage therapies are performed with pressure which ranges from trivial to deep.

An ideal massage therapy is when the receiver of the massage feels some uneasiness which means that his body is activated to natural healing and is responding to massage. Even though most of the types of massage therapies give some discomfort, the soreness does not last for more than a day or two.

Swedish Massage Therapy

This is the most ordinary type of massage therapy in the US. It is better known as Swedish massage or just massage therapy. The therapists perform long soft strokes, rubbing down, and making round motions on the surface of muscle applying massage lotion or oil.



This type of massage therapy is very mild and soothing. You can try this type of massage therapy if this is your first time.

Aromatherapy Massage

This type of massage therapy is performed by using a variety of scented plant extracts which are known as essential oils. Aromatherapy can be used for specific needs. The therapist chooses oils which are relaxing, stimulating, reducing stress and balancing etc. The general oil used in aromatherapy is lavender.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage is useful when need to loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers. Heated, smooth stones are placed on certain points on the body to warm and loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body. Here, the therapist applies pressure gently on the body with stones. The warmth generated thus is comforting.

Deep Tissue Massage

This type of massage therapy targets the deeper layer of your muscle and its connecting tissue. The therapist uses slow strokes or he may at times use friction technique applied across the grains of the muscle.

Shiatsu

This is a kind of Japanese bodywork that expends set of finger force in a rhythmical series on acupuncture peaks.

Thai Massage

This type of massage therapy adjusts the balance of the body applying easy force on particular points. Thai massage also makes use of contractions and stretching.

Pregnancy Massage

This is also known as prenatal massage. This type of massage therapy is becoming quite popular these days. This is used to decrease stress and swelling due to pregnancy.
