Pregnancy Massage 

Pregnancy massage therapy is as the name suggests especially created massage therapy that benefits both the mother-to-be and the fetus.



Actually a touch means comfort, awareness, love and many other feelings. It aids in lessening aches and pains. This becomes more beneficial when a woman is pregnant.

Pregnancy massage therapy is particularly tailored for the expectant mother's requirements.



It is also known as pre-natal massage.

Positioning during the massage is very important for the safety of both the mother and the baby.  Some parts of the body should not be massaged.

The table for pregnancy massage therapy is set up so that when you lie you will be in a semi-reclining position. This is comfortable as well as safe for the baby. When your back and hips are massaged then you will turn side to side.

The setting of the room for massage of a pregnant woman is like the room for a conventional massage. The room will have dim lighting and a warm extra padded table will be used for the woman to lie down. Soft music will be played so that the woman can relax and drift away. Some play music with a baby’s heart throb on the background. Some of them use candles as they smell good.

Even women who carry multiple babies do benefit greatly from pregnancy massage therapy. This pregnancy massage therapy is useful for labor. But the therapist must warn these women that some techniques used may be unsafe otherwise Pregnancy Massage Therapy is very good.

Precautions to be used:

  • Most of the therapists never advise massage in the 1st trimester.
  • Some women with some health conditions cannot avail the pregnancy massage therapy.
  • It is always better to consult your doctor or a qualified pregnancy massage therapist.
  • The abdomen can be touched only outwardly with a level gentle hand.
  • Any pressure enforced to the inside of the legs should also be outward.
  • Those who are advised bed rest may be at a higher risk of blood clots in their legs. They are advised to skip massage on their legs.

Pregnancy massage therapy is useful to reduce stress, however it is advisable to take extreme care and learn more about the massage before going for it.
