Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage therapy is a kind of massage therapy which centers on realigning thicker levels of muscles and connective tissue.

This kind of massage is useful to those who have never ending tensions and also suffer from stiff necks, sore shoulders or low back tightness. The strokes used in this therapy are similar to the other kind of massages.

The motions used are slow and the force is deep on concentrated areas where the tension is more and pain is also more.

When there is constant muscle stress or damage, there are more often than not attachments in ligaments, muscles and tendons.

These adhesions usually block circulation and pain results with limited movement and also inflammation.
Deep tissue massage therapy physically breaks down the adhesions and relieves pain and restores regular movement. The massage therapist regularly uses straight deep force or friction along the grain of the muscular tissue.
At times while massaging, people normally find some sort of discomfort and pain. So when you are undergoing deep tissue massage therapy you must inform your therapist when your pain starts and if you feel any soreness or experience discomfort. There is normally some stiffness or pain after deep tissue massages therapy but generally subsides within a day. The deep tissue massage therapy therapist may recommend applying ice to the area after the massage.

Deep tissue massage therapy mostly centers on some specific problems such as:

  • Chronic pain
  • Limited mobility
  • Revival from injuries
  • Recurring strain injury
  • Postural problems
  • Osteoarthritis pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle tension

Safety measures

Deep tissue massage therapy is not suggested for some people who have:

  • Contagious skin disease or even rash or may be open wounds.
  • Instantaneously after surgery
  • Instantly after chemotherapy or radiation but if your doctor does not advice then keep away from it.
  • Also those who have osteoporosis should get advise from their doctors before getting a massage
  • Those who are prone to blood clots should not undertake this therapy.
  • Pregnant women should avoid deep tissue massage therapy.
  • Deep tissue massage therapy should not be carried out straight over bruises, unhealed wounds, tumors, abdominal hernia, inflamed skin, or regions of recent fractures.
  • Always avoid heavy meals before the deep tissue massage therapy.

Deep tissue massage therapy actually targets deeper muscles by altering the techniques of normal massage. The therapist may use slow and more targeted strokes. These strokes work against the natural growth of the muscle and you get some relief. Your therapist may use a large amount of force during your massage. This helps them to reach the proper muscles which are affected.
