Running has numerous fitness and health benefits.  It helps in improving self-confidence and reaching your full potential. Running is also one of the best exercises for the heart. You don’t require any fancy equipment to begin running. All you need is a pair of shoes and a place to run. In spite of its accessibility, starting a running program isn’t always easy. You have to build up stamina and endurance even when you run for a short period of time. Before you start a running program it is advisable for you to consult a doctor and get a general checkup done.
The most important part of running gear is a good pair of shoes. It is better for you to purchase your running shoes from a store that specializes in them. If you possess an old pair of running shoes take them with you to the store. A store assistant can examine the pattern of wear and tear or deterioration of the shoe sole and accordingly suggest the right one for you. Bring along the socks that you plan on using for running so that you can test the shoes and get a complete feel. It is not advisable to go running with your regular shoes as the cushioning might not be sufficient and can cause injury.
Running for a beginner should be started out slowly. Many people start their running program in full swing and try to reach their ultimate running goals. This should not be done as the muscles of the body need to get used to the activity and a sudden exertion can cause injury. When you begin running it is better to focus on the duration of the run rather than the intensity. You could start off with a slow jog for 10-20 minutes for the first week. Once you get comfortable with the duration you could add another 5 minutes for the next week. Gradually keep adding 5 minutes till you feel satisfied with the exercise you’re getting.
Running benefits not only your physical body but also your mind by improving your general well being and reducing stress. When you run for a long time the brain releases endorphins which give you a sense of pleasure. Running is also very effective in helping with weight loss. Running at 7 miles per hour will burn around 700 calories. For you to maximize the benefits of running you should make sure to do it regularly. Combining it with a well balanced diet is also essential as they will complement each other and ensure a healthy and fit body.
