The bergamot essential oil is extracted from the bergamia tree. It is one of the popular oils used in aromatherapy. It is effective in relaxing the body, elevating the mood, strengthening the liver and stomach, and healing urinary tract infections. It is also used for skin care purposes as it treats oily skin, eczema, acne, and psoriasis.

Bergamot comes from the family of citrus trees. Its aroma is similar to lavender and neroli oils. The color varies from green to greenish yellow. The oil of bergamot is made from a tree that grows up to 13 feet high. The tree has soft leaves and star shaped flowers. The fruit of this tree resembles an orange, but is pear shaped. The color of the fruit varies from green to yellow as it ripens. The tree is found in many parts of the world including South East Asia, Italy, Tunisia, and Algeria.

In the perfume industry, the oil is widely used with neroli and lavender to make very sweet fragrances. Bergamot oil gets its name from Bergamo, Italy where it was first sold. The oil is extracted from both the ripe as well as the unripe fruits. Each fruit can yield up to 0.5% oil. When bergamot oil is applied on the skin, the skin should not be exposed to sunlight as the oil can cause photo-toxicity.

Bergamot oil helps in treating depression, tension, fear, and stress. It is good for stomach and digestive problems. It is also used as an antibiotic. When applied on the skin, it helps cure eczema, anorexia, and psoriasis. The oil helps strengthen the liver.

The vapors of the oil are used to overcome resentful feelings. It also treats the cold, flu and the breathing problems. It is also used with other oils for massage. Taking a bath with diluted bergamot oil helps to relieve stress, tension, and anxiety.

Bergamot oil can be mixed in a cream base for healing the wounds, acne, eczema, and chicken pox. The oil blends well with other essential oils such as cypress, geranium, jasmine, mandarin, orange, black pepper, and rosemary. Bergamot essential oils are offered by many companies. You can easily purchase the oil online or from a nearby store. Get an expert’s help when choosing from the wide range of bergamot oils available, as some products are artificial, and it is very hard to distinguish the right one from the wrong.
