Definition of essential oils:Essential oils are extracted from leaves, flowers, plants, shrubs, trees, barks and fruits. Some examples are jasmine, jojoba, patchouli, sandalwood, tea tree, magnolia, rose and grapefruit. The essential oils are extracted by a special process of steaming and distillation, followed by bottling. They are in highly concentrated forms and a drop or two is usually sufficient.

Each essential oil has its own specific properties, which are beneficial to health. They are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-spasmodic, anti-depressant and analgesic.

Essential oils and aromatherapy:Aromatherapy however, should not be confused with fragrance oils which often use synthetic fragrances. Just lighting a candle or an incense stick with a pleasing smell does not make it aromatherapy. Aromatherapy makes use of essential oils because they have therapeutic properties along with a pleasing fragrance.

Different essential oils can be blended and used according to the specific requirement. For example, in tea tree oil aromatherapy, this essential oil may be blended with essential oils of clove, cinnamon, lemon, lavender, rosewood, nutmeg, rosemary and lemon. All these have anti-bacterial properties and are used to treat bronchial congestion, sinusitis, asthma, as well as to clear genital infections, acne, burns, cold sores, diaper rash, athlete's foot and abscesses.

Aromatherapy massage uses essential oils directly on the body. When doing so, they are usually blended with other carrier oils such as grape seed oil, apricot kernel or sweet almond. The essential oil can also be mixed in a cream or lotion.

Essential oils aromatherapy also recommends mixing a few drops in our bath water. A few drops may also be put in a steamer or vaporizer. Using candles and incense sticks which have blends of essential oils is also very popular in aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy works by absorbing essential oils into our skin and blood stream. The smells also travel via the olfactory nerves right up to that region of the brain, which controls our moods and memories. This area also releases endorphins and other 'feel good' chemicals. Essential oil aromatherapy has far-ranging benefits such as improving sleep, aiding digestion and blood circulation, relaxing muscles, reducing inflammation and stimulating the immune system.

Take care to buy good quality oils like aura cacia aromatherapy oils.
