Yoga Asanas In Chairs

Yoga asanas in chairs has nowadays officially been allotted the name Chair Yoga.



This, by the way, is the expression normally employed to illustrate that gentle form of yoga. This form of yoga is done seated in a chair. Alternately they are done standing with a chair for support.



Chair Yoga is not officially recognized as a form of Yoga different from other types. These formally are known as Iyengar Yoga, Bikram Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga or Ashtanga yoga. However, oftentimes, these poses (asanas) are variations of the original Hatha Yoga poses.



Also, very often the student of Chair Yoga is one who finds it tough or cannot do normal Yoga asanas. This is largely due to age, infirmity or disabilities. Chair Yoga sessions are often set-aside for people at senior fitness centers, retirement facilities, and adult daycare centers.

More often than not instructions in Chair Yoga are given as in a bid to attain physical and mental fitness. It is not imparted as a way of life. This, by the way, is how most other Yoga sessions in the world are conducted. In that respect, Chair Yoga is more an exercise medium for the old, infirm and disabled than most other forms of Yoga. This is because it includes meditation and correct breathing, besides the physical poses.

Most participants of Chair Yoga classes tend to have a history of health issues. In fact, a lot of them are there as a result of the advice from a health care professional who has recommended it, because of their problems. A trained and experienced Chair Yoga instructor normally enquires about and is fully alert to the constraints and limitations the participant may have.

Chair Yoga is one of the gentlest types of Yoga on offer today and has helped a lot of people suffering from number health problems. Some of these include High Blood Pressure (hypertension), anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, vertigo (medical), multiple sclerosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, clinical depression, and chronic pain to name just a few conditions.
