Yoga asanas in chairs has nowadays officially been allotted the name Chair Yoga. This, by the way, is the expression normally employed to illustrate that gentle form of yoga. This form of yoga is done seated in a chair.

Alternately they are done standing with a chair for support. Chair Yoga is not officially recognized as a form of Yoga different from other types. These formally are known as Iyengar Yoga, Bikram Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga or Ashtanga yoga.

Also, very often the student of Chair Yoga is one who finds it tough or cannot do normal Yoga asanas. This is largely due to age, infirmity or disabilities. Chair Yoga sessions are often set-aside for people at senior fitness centers, retirement facilities, and adult daycare centers.
