Yoga Postures for Fertility and Conception

The regular and determined practice of Hatha Yoga helps you stay fit by preserving and expanding your physical and mental faculties. It slows down the ageing process and helps you remain strong and active, right up to old age.

Yoga Asanas for Fertility:

The following asanas, including one mudra and Bandha, are recommended for fertility, for fostering reproduction and combating impotence and sterility :

  • Matsyasana
  • Viparita Karani
  • Halasana*
  • Bhujangasana
  • Dhanurasana
  • Salabhasana* Ardha-Salabhasana
  • Paschimottanasana*
  • Janu Sirshasana*

All of them should be practiced during a complete Yoga session. However, the asanas indicated above could prove be harmful if they are performed incorrectly and without the guidance of a qualified instructor. Before accepting a student, the Yoga instructor should be informed about the student's state of health and should be able to offer necessary advice on how to perform the asanas correctly.

Some asanas should not be done by menstruating women – like those marked with an asterisk (*) – by those suffering from spinal problems or from hyper or hypotension. Likewise, those with various other problems such as asthmatic and heart problem or orthopedic ailments like arthritis, osteoarthritis, muscle spasms etc. The asanas in question could be modified or replaced by more suitable Yogic practices.

Further, the asanas should not be practiced during the period of digestion. They should be done either before meals, or at least 4 1/2 hours after a substantial meal. The duration and number of repetitions for each asana should gradually be increased, in strict adherence to the instructor's guidance. Ideally, at the end of a Yoga session, you should not feel tired, but fresh and full of energy.
