Yoga Poses for Flat Abs
We have all heard about the abs and the need for strengthening them. Most folks also have the desire to have well-toned, strengthened and flat abdominal muscles.
So they go to the gym. But did you know even Yoga has a set of cleansing kriyas, physical exercises, postures and breathing exercises that will literally crush the bulge?
Poses that target excess weight in the abdominal region:
- Surya Namaskar – Sun Salutations
- Dhanurasana – Bow pose
- Mayurasana – Peacock pose
- Padahastasana – Standing forward bend
- Kakasana – Crow pose
Eka Pada Baka Dhyanasana – One legged crane meditative pose
Of course there are many other poses that could be very useful for toning the abs such as the Shoulder Stand (Sarvangasana), the Plough (Halasana), Wheel (Chakrasana), so on and so forth.
In addition, keeping in line with Yoga’s insistence on a cleaner colon as the first step to abdominal weight loss or tone, we suggest that you perform cleansing kriyas.
Suggested Cleanising Kriyas for abdominal weight loss :
- Vaman dhauti (every day for a month)
- Shanka Prakshalana (once a week for a month)
Breathing exercises to burn abdominal fat:
Together with these cleansing techniques, the Yoga poses are excellent for detoxifying the body. They cleanse and exercise the abdominal region. Further, a set of simple push-up to gain wrist strength or practicing it against the wall. Jhula asana (swinging lotus) is also known to produce great results.
We would also include other basic exercises such as the use of the Ab-wheel, windmills etc. They offer a bit of variety sometimes. However, that is just on occasion. The aforementioned Yoga Poses are excellent in themselves for exercising the abdominal region thoroughly. Coupled with a customized diet, those of you seeking abdominal weight loss would find success in using these Yoga practices.
