Given the fact that obesity is such as big problem in the world today, with some countries going as far as labeling the condition as being a pandemic, it is good to see a number of people take their weight issues rather seriously. While some people believe that the only problem that obesity causes is in relation to a persons aesthetic appeal, the more serious concerns of the problem are actually much more significant. For instance, some of the more serious problems that are the direct result of being overweight include chronic respiratory illness, heart failure and high blood pressure amongst a whole host of other conditions. Another very important aspect of obesity is the amount of discomfort that it causes a person when it comes to even the slightest of body movements. Before getting into the details of how to lose weight, it is important to understand the factors that influenced it in the first place. Obesity is primarily down to two main factors – an unhealthy diet and a lack of proper exercise. The lack of a healthy diet is a common problem that is usually triggered by the fact that most of us live very hectic lifestyles, causing us to rely heavily on the convenience of fast foods. However, these foods lack any of the nutrients and vitamins that our bodies require and are heavily packed with a lot of empty calories that serve no other purpose apart from adding themselves onto the fatty tissues of the body.

A lack of exercise results in a build up of these fatty tissues – thereby combining to cause obesity. Walking is considered to be one of the most effective and simplest methods of weight loss. Walking a half marathon is known to be one of the best exercise routines when a person is trying to lose weight, but because of the endurance required to accomplish this on a regular basis, some degree of training is required. The question of ‘how long does it take to walk a half marathon’ will depend heavily on the speed and intensity with which you perform the task with running a half marathon being the most effective – but also requiring the most amount of training and body conditioning. If you have grown accustomed to a lifestyle with no physical activity it would be unwise to leap into any activity. Before consider walking a half marathon try and get accustomed to some amount of physical activity even if it simply means doing household chores, like cleaning the driveway or walking to the grocery store instead of driving.

Just because you already walk quite a lot does not mean that your body is prepared to deal with walking a half marathon. However, when you start your training, it is important to focus on getting your body to be able to handle smaller distances with high intensities.
