Many people are keen on knowing how to calculate walking speed and also to calculate walking distances so that they can accordingly determine the number if calories burnt which is true especially in the case of those who take up walking for weight loss. Studies have shown that walking an average of 10000 steps per day is beneficial in lowering one blood pressure levels, contributes to a healthier and optimal weight, promotes control over blood sugar levels and also reduces the risk of abdominal obesity which is known to be harmful to ones cardiovascular health. There are sites that also allow the user to create a walking path and then calculate the distance automatically. Some other sites also contain pre-made running and walking trails that enable the walker to find walking directions for a particular trail and also helps them in distance measurement. Calculating ones walking distance and steps taken per day is a good way of monitoring ones progress and accordingly stepping up the walking workout program. One may take up any of the various types of walking styles available such as the easy health walk or even the brisk walk wherein one walks at a swift pace and is able to breathe noticeably. One can calculate their walking speed using a watch as well by first calculating how many steps they take in 15 seconds and then multiplying the number with 4 so as to arrive at the number of steps taken per day.
