Urticaria is simply the medical term for hives. This is a very common skin ailment that is characterized by the appearance of raised red itchy patches of skin. These patches occur in various sizes and shapes and are most commonly seen on the legs, trunk and arms. Urticaria is generally a reaction to some type of allergen, such as food, medication, heat and so on. However, there may be non-allergen causes for this condition as well. This condition is caused due to a chemical substance known as histamine in our bodies. This particular chemical causes the capillaries to leak out fluid into the skin’s dermis. This is what leads to the reddened swelling. This kind of skin condition generally heals on its own accord and there are very rare cases where medical intervention may be required. If your skin is covered by red, itchy, flared patches, then you probably have urticaria.

Home Treatment For Urticaria

As this condition is generally caused due to some allergen, you will need to determine what it is, to prevent future breakouts. Here are a few home remedies that will help in treating this condition. Aloe vera gel is considered to be one of the best home remedies for treating this condition. Slice an aloe leaf in half and scoop out the gel. Apply a thin layer of this gel onto the affected area twice a day. It will speed up the healing process while alleviating any itching sensation. Add half a cup each of baking soda and cornstarch to your warm bath water. Soak yourself in this solution for 15-20 minutes daily. This treatment will help in soothing the skin.

Milk of magnesia is also considered to be a very effective remedy for this solution. The alkaline nature of this substance helps in reducing any severe itching sensation. Apply a thin layer of this solution on to the affected area. Leave the application on for about 10-15 minutes, after which rinse it off with cold water. Washing the area with cool basil tea is also considered to be effective. Boil 3-4 cups of water and to this add 2 teaspoons of dried basil. Let the two simmer for a few minutes, after which strain the liquid into a bowl. Once the concoction has cooled to room temperature, use it to wash the affected area. Do this daily and preferably twice a day. Finally, if the rash shows no sign of abating in a few days, then consulting a physician is recommended.
