What Cause Feet Swelling

To begin with, you need to know why this is happening. There is absolutely no reason why your foot should swell up to this point unless there is something seriously wrong with you. You are advised to go for a medical check up and get a proper diagnosis, that is, if you don’t know the reason. In all likelihood, you would have to follow a proper treatment of medication to get rid of the problem. However, you can always short list the causes right at home. One of the main reasons why people suffer from this kind of swelling is obesity. Typically, people who are very obese have difficulty in getting their legs to carry all the weight. Since most of the weight is restricted to the torso and upper thighs, it is the feet that have to bear the brunt of most of it. And it is practically impossible for you to put on weight on your feet. If this is the case with you, you should focus on losing the excess weight that you may have accumulated. In all likelihood, you will be able to get rid of most of the problem by doing just this much. Do remember to start with a combination of low impact exercise and diet, as any kind of excessive exercise can damage your state.

The other reason could be that you are suffering from edema. This is the medical term used to describe water retention and excessive swelling in the feet. If you are indeed suffering from water retention, you can easily control this with your diet. Water retention is a classic symptom of a diet high on salt. A high sodium diet can lead to water retention. You would therefore need to cut back on salt and increase your water and general fluid intake to a large degree. It is a myth that drinking a lot of water will lead to a lot of water retention. In fact the more water you drink, the more of it will be flushed out via your urine. In addition to the liquid, the salts will also be flushed out. This way, your swelling will reduce. You should also try to keep your feet elevated as much as you possibly can. This will also help to bring down the inflammation. If you are in a job wherein you are sitting all the time, make it a point to get up every hour or so and keep walking about.
