chakrasan for increasing height

(November 2, 2007)

I am 18 years old. my height is around five feet 10 or five feet ten and a half. i would like to grow to 6 feet. would chakrasan help me increase my height. and if it will, how long should i do ti in the morning?

Chakrasan is also known as the bridge pose. The bridge pose won’t help increase your height by much, especially on its own. It may help you increase your height by half a centimeter or so. If you are concerned with increasing your height, try practicing asanas that will release tension in your spine. This includes spinal twists and threading the needle pose as well as bridge pose. However, yoga asanas will not increase your height by much and perhaps in total you will only gain a centimeter or two, not the inch or two that you are hoping for. Most people have reached their final height by age 18, although there have been cases of people growing up to age 21.

If you are particularly interested in Chakrasan, holding the pose for 30 seconds is recommended. However,if your back is tight, simply hold it for as long as you can, even if that is only 10 seconds. Pushing your back into Chakrasan when it is not ready can do damage to your back. Repeat Chakrasan up to 4 times in any yoga practice. But do not push yourself until you hurt your back. Your back is more important than any amount of height you may gain.
