Get Rid Of Edema During Pregnancy

There are very few things that can be done to help you out at this stage. While there are no guarantees that your edema can be cured, you can at least work at finding some relief. To start with, you need to seriously increase your water intake. This of course will always come with its own problems, such as excessive and frequent urination, but it will also help to get rid of the edema to some degree. Drinking more and more water will help the water retention to reduce because more and more water will be flushed out of your system. Along with this, salt will also be flushed out, so basically, the tendency to retain water will be lessened. The more salt you flush out of your system, the less your body will retain water. Keeping this in mind, you should also cut back on your salt intake. If you are taking additional salt with your food in terms of sprinkling it over salad or something like that, then you need to stop doing this. Generally, too, if you can, add less salt to your food. One of the stealthiest ways salt can enter your system is by eating processed foods. All canned foods contain a high amount of sodium which is not good for you generally as well. Particularly when you are pregnant, you should try harder to avoid eating canned, preserved or boxed food. Stick to fresh foods as much as you can, whether it is fruits and vegetables or meat.

Apart from this, try and stay off your feet. If you are working, and this cannot be avoided, then you should give your feet a break as much as possible. If you are sitting down constantly, walk around every hour or so to keep the circulation going. If you are standing or walking all the time, sit down, every hour or so, for about 5 to 10 minutes. If you are sitting down, try to have a footstool or a raised surface where you can elevate your feet. This will help to reduce the puffiness and swelling as well. In the evening, just before bedtime, you should soak your feet in warm water for about 15 to 20 minutes, or till the water runs cool. This will be extremely useful in providing relief to your aching feet. Besides, when you sleep right after this healthy soak, your swelling will reduce a lot.
