Prevention Of Urinary Incontinence

If you have an overactive bladder, you need to ascertain why this is so. Sometimes, age can lead to an overactive bladder. However, please understand that this is not a normal process that comes along with ageing. It could affect a certain number of people and there could be any number of reasons why you are afflicted. However, about the only thing you can hope to do at home is to try and regain some sort of urinary control again. One of the tried and tested methods you can employ is to retrain your bladder. This would involve first trying to determine a pattern on your urinary incontinence. See if you can determine how often you need to urinate and the intervals or specific timings at which these problems affect you. Once you have determined this, make it a point to use the toilet just before, and no matter how strong the urge is, try to control yourself and stop yourself from using the toilet. While you may experience loss of control a few times, your body will eventually learn that it must have the control required. Depending upon your age and ability to enforce this kind of discipline, you can go ahead with it and see if it works for you. You would need to be patient, as this will take at least about a month or so for you to see results.

The other thing you can so is a Yogic exercise called Ashvini Mudra. You need to contract your genitals, like you would if you are trying to control a urinary or bowel movement. Hold this for 10 seconds and then release. This exercise can be done at least 10 times at a stretch. This will strengthen your urinary tract muscles and will help you to gain greater control over your faculties. You should start with contracting and holding your muscles for a few seconds at a time. Do not try for 10 seconds at first go, as you may tire out the muscle instead. Work your way slowly up to the 10 second muscle hold. In terms of diet, you can add sesame seeds to your diet, as they generally tend to withhold urine expulsion. Please do not consume more than one tablespoon of seeds a day. Too much of sesame can also cause problems of a different kind. If you see no difference in a month, please consult your family doctor.
