Symptoms

Being afflicted by a stomach virus is a very common occurrence, and one that affects every individual at some point or the other. This condition manifests itself in symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting and body aches. It is also possible that you may experience symptoms as a feeling of weak muscles, and sore throat and even severe headaches. Fortunately, there are some effective natural home remedies available which can be used to alleviate this condition.

As your stomach clears itself by way of the diarrhea, you should then complement its efforts by avoiding the consumption of any foods and liquid for at least some hours. Your stomach requires you to give it a break from processing the food that you consume and an opportunity to settle down and relax for a while before it can start functioning normally again. It is extremely important to ensure that you are well hydrated at all times. Getting yourself dehydrated is one of the most serious things that can happen to you when you are afflicted by a viral infection in the stomach.

Treatment

At the very least, you should try sucking on some chipped ice or an ice candy even though you may still be experiencing symptoms of vomiting. The ice chips or the ice candy will not only provide you with some extremely essential moisture, but will also control any fever that you might develop. Once you have stopped vomiting, you should opt for liquids such as water, weak teas and ginger ale. You can also prepare another drink that might be a rather effective remedy – mix about five drops of grapefruit extract in a glass of warm water. The natural properties of the grapefruit are believed to be very beneficial in disinfecting your digestive system. When you feel sufficiently confident enough about consuming some food, it is preferable to keep yourself away from anything with a high content of spices. It is best to begin with foods that are bland and relatively easy to digest. Chicken noodles soup is known to be extremely beneficial in treating stomach infections. However, if you do not have this available, you may even try some weak oatmeal which can be just as effective.

No sooner the most difficult stage of your stomach infection is over, you will need to give yourself some days in order to revert to your normal strength. It would be a good idea to continue eating bland foods, particularly those with a high content of vitamin C. Prepare a drink by mixing a few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice in a glass of warm water and keep drinking it throughout the day. Drinking some cranberry juice is also considered to be beneficial.
