Yoga and Herpes simplex virus

Infections due to herpes simplex virus (HSV) are very common worldwide. There are two types of herpes virus – HSV1 and HSV2; the first one can be transferred through kissing and sharing drinking utensils while the latter one is through sexual contact. In common this virus can cause infection around mouth, face and genitals. Meditation and relaxation is very important to remain cool as it is common to feel depressed, angry and irritated when you have herpes. Simple yoga asana like vajrasana, pranayama followed by meditation will help. Besides try the following tips to deal with herpes simplex virus.

  • Completely avoid contact with a person with genital or oral herpes, for example avoid having sexual intercourse completely when your partner has active lesions. Use latex condoms at other times to avoid the transmission of the virus.
  • Tree tea oil has antifungal and antibacterial properties, apply the oil or gel on the affected areas for relief.
  • Avoid sharing drinking glasses or cups, razor blades or any other things which comes in direct contact with body fluids and saliva.
  • Avoid perspiration or going out in the sun when you have herpes as the sweat can worsen the lesions. Wash the area with clean water and soap and completely dry it before wearing clothes. Preferably wear soft cotton undergarments and avoid synthetic and tight clothes.
