Bronchitis causes inflammation in the bronchi which takes air to the lungs. It can be caused by either viral infection or allergy to specific kind of chemicals. Yoga can help greatly in the treatment of Bronchitis. The chief symptoms of bronchitis are sore throat, cough and short breath.

You can find on the Internet many methods for treating bronchitis in adults, toddlers, and children naturally with alternative medicine and treatments like acupuncture and yoga, with antibiotics, and with remedies that you can prepare at home.

Although there are some prescription antibiotics that can help cure bronchitis, they are not recommended for treating bronchitis during pregnancy. However, there are some other methods you could use for treating bronchitis while pregnant. If you experience a tight feeling in your chest you could try some steam inhalation. Let a sink fill up with some hot water and keep three teabags of chamomile in the water. Let your head be covered with a towel so that the steam is captured. Keep your head over the water. Breathe in deep till you feel your chest clearing up. You could also speak with your doctor if there are any medicines that are safe for women during pregnancy.

Treating bronchitis that is acute can be done with a prednisone therapy. Depending on how severe the attack is, either 20-40 mg should be used a day. Treating bronchitis can also be done with albuterol, which is also effective for asthma. Bronchitis in babies is because of inflamed and swollen bronchial tubes. Young children and babies are more vulnerable to the development of bronchitis because of the just developing respiratory and immune system.

Treating bronchitis for a baby could be done by using a humidifier or vaporizer to increase the moisture in the air of the home and therefore help relieve the coughing by loosening the mucous. Another effective home remedy for treating a bronchitis cough is with a mixture of honey and lime juice.

Yoga helps cure bronchitis and all its symptoms and allows free flow of air in the nostrils. It helps the nostrils to be free from the mucus and also rejuvenates the mind and the body. The breathing exercises of yoga called pranayama can be used for the muscles to relax and be comfortable. Deep breathing exercise of yoga helps the muscles to obtain fresh air and relax. Alternate nostril breathing also works wonders for the treatment of bronchitis.

Some of the yoga poses for bronchitis are Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Spinal Twist), Sukhasana (Easy Pose) and Pavanamuktasana (Wind Relieving Pose). The Pavanamuktasana helps improve the functioning of the digestive system. When the digestive system behaves abnormally there will be problems of breathing. Therefore, it is important that constipation is eliminated from the body for the proper functioning of the body. Some breathing exercises for bronchitis can also be helpful as the condition can sometimes be caused because of stress on different parts of the body. Breathing exercises can help relax the muscles of the body and make you comfortable. Anuloma Viloma (Alternate Nostril Breathing) is considered to be very effective for helping with bronchitis. Hence, bronchitis and yoga can be a good combination. The Sukhasana is also a good yoga pose for asthma.

Bronchitis can also be caused due to stress on various body parts. Yoga helps fix the troubles in the circulatory as well as respiratory system which helps greatly in stress reduction. This improves the health of the individual as well as increases longevity.

Certain postures of yoga which help in the treatment of bronchitis are as under:

Shoulder lifts

Shoulder lifts help to provide pumping effect to the shoulders as well as support the lungs for better activity. It also provides exercise to the spine as well as the back. It relieves the muscles of the stiffness and fibrosis condition and also increases its flexibility. This provides good tone to the muscles of the body.

Half Spine Twist

This posture strengthens the spine and is highly beneficial for the functioning of the liver and kidneys. You need to sit in the lotus position. Then try to turn your head backwards. Unfold your legs and take one leg backwards.

Easy Pose

Easy pose helps the body to relax. You need to sit in a comfortable position by folding both your legs. Let your hands rest on your knees. This yoga posture is also suitable to meditate. This pose also increases concentration and keeps your mind still.

Wind relieving pose

This posture helps to treat the digestive system. Any abnormality in the digestive system can also lead to discomfort in breathing and bronchitis. Hence it is essential that constipation is removed from the body in order for the body to be rejuvenated. To practice this pose is simple.

  2. Lift one of your knees and try to bring it towrads your upper body
  3. Lift your head a little
  4. Hold your knee with both your hands
