Power Yoga For Beginners

Power Yoga Benefits

Power Yoga is a dynamic, lively, enthusiastic and animated style of Yoga practice. It involves, a steady uninterrupted sequence of asanas (Yoga poses) that are said to be hard, challenging, rigorous, and quite taxing. All said and done, Power Yoga is a brisk workout that is known to guarantee results that include:

  • Greater stamina, strength, and flexibility.
  • Increase in your ability to focus.
  • A great way to eliminate toxins, tension and stress.
  • Develop correct posture.
  • Tone up your whole physique.
  • An exceptional, first-rate training for sports people. The practice of Power Yoga is known to enhance these practitioners’ performance in specific sports like cycling, golf, football, and swimming.

Best of all, even beginners, novices or newcomers to Yoga can take on the basic challenges that Power Yoga presents. Power Yoga also insists on perfecting the postures by holding an asana (Yoga pose) much longer than other conventional schools, in the process, improving flexibility, powers of concentration and endurance. However, the Yoga poses practiced in Power Yoga are linked to the backbone of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) so, any and everyone who wishes to practise them must, necessarily, have at least some prior knowledge of Yogasanas (poses). The rest comes with practice and plenty of patience. This definitely doesn’t mean that a newcomer can’t learn either.

Yoga Poses For Power Yoga

Asanas – All the Yogasanas (poses) in Power Yoga are designed to shed excess weight, to develop and cultivate beautiful bodies, boost stamina and powers of endurance. A series of Yogasanas (poses) is done continuously, just like you would in Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) in the following positions:

  • Standing
  • Sitting
  • Lying supine
  • Lying prone and
  • Inverted

The asanas (Yoga poses) are preformed in one smooth rollover, a cycle that helps you shed unnecessary weight from your abdomen, hips, waist and thighs. You usually start with the Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) and continue with the other asanas (poses) nonstop. One of the assets of Power Yoga is that it can easily, effortlessly and conveniently be practised in the comfort of your own home. Here are some of the simplest and basic Power Yoga asanas (poses) that can be done at own, anytime.

  • Bridge pose
  • Frog stand
  • Warrior lunge
  • Yogi Hurdler's stretch

Of course, there are many, many more but, in addition to the Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations), these are the most fundamental postures.

PranayamaPower Yoga also includes certain pranayamas (breathing exercises) that involve hypo-ventilation as well as hyper-ventilation. Hypo-ventilation exercises are the stimulating pranayamas, while the hyper-ventilation exercises are the relaxing ones. These pranayamas (breathing exercises) include Kapalabhatti (Skull Cleansing) and Bhastrika, (Bellows Breath) designed for weight loss and for boosting energy reserves.
