Causes & Symptoms of Urinary Tract Infection In Women

By Patricia | August 7, 2009

After and before urinating I feel burning sensation and pain in lower abdomen, or it is because of my vaginal hysterectomy recently?

If you have pains after a recent hysterectomy, the obvious thing to do would be to go back to the doctor who operated on you. Very often, post surgery, we experience problems that we discount as the after effects of surgery. However, even the slightest of discomforts should have us running back to the doctor for a discussion.

It is not uncommon for side effects of the surgery to occur even a year after the surgery was actually performed. Therefore, your doctor who performed your surgery is your best bet even months after the surgery.

If your doctor has not already told you about the post surgery complications and after care, perhaps now is the time to discuss it. However, if you have already been through the instructions, and strongly feel that it’s not the after effects of the surgery but something new altogether, perhaps you should get yourself checked again to see if you’re suffering from a urinary tract infection.

Burning sensations while urinating is one of the commonest symptoms of a urinary tract infection. Since you have recently had a surgery, your immunity is low and infections can occur relatively easily. Also because of this reason, you should be even extra careful about any discomfort that you might experience. What ever it is, it could get serious enough to cause trouble and therefore it is all the more important for you to be vigilant about your health.

Home Remedies

If it is indeed a urinary tract infection that you have, cranberry juice can help cleanse the tract. Cranberry juice, with its many enzymes, is a natural cure for urinary tract infection. In fact, if the infection is mild, cranberry juice may completely cure it. With it, also drink a lot of water. When you drink more water, you urinate more and the urinary tract gets cleansed. Also take care while wiping yourself after passing a stool. Every time you wipe yourself after passing a stool, take care to wipe from front to back instead of the other way around. This will prevent the bacteria from your anal area to travel to your vagina. Make sure that you wash yourself regularly with warm water and a mild soap to ensure that the area is free of bacteria.

If the burning is extreme, apply some cold yogurt around the area where the burning sensation is most acute. You can also try washing yourself with water that has some baking soda mixed into it. This not only disinfects your vaginal area, but also sanitizes it. You can also topically apply yogurt to your genitals in order to clean up your infection.
