Any kind of vaginal discharge can be really embarrassing, especially when it ruins an intimate moment that you’re going to share with your partner. A lot of women get vaginal discharges— some with foul odors, others with different colors and textures. Along with being a cause for embarrassment, vaginal discharges can also be a cause for worry. It could be a sign of some vaginal infection or even a sexually transmitted disease.

Fortunately, a yellowish discharge is usually just a symptom of an infection and nothing really serious. However, just the presence and color of a discharge is not really sufficient information to determine the exact cause of the discharge. To pin point the exact disorder that you may be suffering from, perhaps you need to examine the discharge a little more closely. If the discharge is thick and has somewhat the appearance of cottage cheese, accompanied by a foul odor of stale fish and itching, you are most likely to be suffering from a yeast infection.

A Yeast infection can be caused by many things. Hormonal imbalance, tight clothes, poor and irregular eating habits and poor feminine hygiene are the most common causes of yeast infections.

Although a vaginal discharge that is yellow in color could be something more serious than just a yeast infection. A lot of symptoms of the yeast infection can also occur when you are suffering from a more sinister condition. The symptoms of yeast infections are a lot like many bacterial and venereal diseases like Chlamydia and gonorrhea. Still the symptoms in these sexually transmitted diseases are accompanied with a lot of pain and discomfort.

If this is simply a yeast infection, there are a lot of things that you can do to treat it. However, for a sexually transmitted disease, going to your gynecologist is your best bet. Such disorders can be serious and should be checked before they become aggravated enough to cause serious implications.

To cure a yeast infection, make a vaginal douche by mixing together water, garlic paste and apple cider vinegar. Use either a douche bag or simply apply it on the vagina. Rinse it off after a minute or two. You might feel a sharp stinging sensation but it will slowly go away and you will find relief from any discomfort. Repeat this daily till the discharge disappears.

Start wearing comfortable clothes that allow air to pass through. Limit synthetic fabrics in your wardrobe. Switch to cottons. Prefer cotton fabrics even for your underwear.

It is best to visit your gynecologist if your problem persists for more than a week or two.
