Pulmonary Edema Causes and Treatments

Edema is the medical term for a fluid accumulation in a certain part of the body. The edema is classified based on its location. Therefore, a pulmonary edema is the accumulation of fluid in the lungs, a lymphedema is an accumulation of fluid in a lymph gland or node, and correspondingly with other zones of the body.

Causes And Treatment

After a certain age, edemas are quite common in the load bearing joints of the body. This can be a natural progression of diseases like gout or arthritis and even an eventuality that occurs as a product of water retention. Water retention is a condition that can happen to most people irrespective of age. The mechanism of progression of this condition starts at the vascular level. When blood travels downwards to the extremities, the force of gravity helps it along to send nutrients to the cells. However, it takes an additional effort and strong blood vessels to hold the fluid volume, when pumping it back up. After a certain age, this mechanism dies down and fluid ends up accumulating in the joints. The best way to rectify this situation is revitalize the vascular system with exercise and reduction of the blood density and pressure – by using less salt. Another possible reason for edema is the result of inflammations. This inflammation can be in the joints caused by arthritis or of the surrounding tissue, as is the case in gout. Gout is a disease that is caused by the presence of too much of uric acid the system. Called the rich man’s disease, it is called so because it is brought about due to, high animal protein intake and alcohol abuse. This causes uric acid to build up in the body. Some of the uric acid crystallizes, as it does sometimes in the kidney to form a kidney stone. These crystals of uric acid poke into the surrounding tissue causing injury and inflammation. This eventually leads to a fluid accumulation at the area of the joint.

All fluid accumulation has to be dealt with by stimulation of fluid excretion – or in simple terms, the use of a diuretic. One of the most potent diuretics is coffee and tea. A fractured wrist is something that no home remedy can heal and the only help that can be acquired from a home remedy is the increase in the amount of calcium in the diet, to prevent osteoporosis. If there is any pain or inflammation then this can be averted with the ingestion of ginger.
