3 Yoga Relaxation Poses

Yoga Relaxation

There are basically 3 types of Yoga relaxation poses. These are

  • Dhrdasana (Sideward Relaxation Pose)
  • Nispanda Bhava (Unmoving Observation), and
  • Shavasana (Corpse Pose)

All these three are relaxation asanas (Yoga poses) designed to loosen and lighten up the body while reducing muscular and mental stress and tension. In fact, here we go a step further. While relaxing the body, these poses, like all others, work on the internal structure of the body as well, relaxing the organs and glands like no other relaxation techniques do. Shavasana (Corpse Pose) is normally done at the beginning and end of a Yoga session. Some Yoga schools even advocate practicing it in between strenuous asanas (poses). Dhrdasana (Sideward Relaxation Pose) and Nispanda Bhava (Unmoving Observation), on the other hand, are stand alone relaxation techniques that can be done any time you feel the need to relax. Shavasana (Corpse Pose) may also be done after a hard day’s work or just before retiring to bed.

Ideal Yoga Environment And Relaxation

Yoga should be practised in a secluded spot where there aren’t too many distractions or interruptions, including unwarranted furniture. Ideally, Yoga should be practiced in charming natural environs, either on the banks of a lake or river, by the seaside or atop a hill or mountain where the climate is pleasant, abounding with fauna and flora and where natural foods are easily available. The location should be beautiful and pleasant, where the spiritual vibes are elevating, a spot free from noise and pollution. Even if you practice in a town or city, see that your room is well-ventilated and one that you can reserve just for Yoga practices. As far as possible, try and keep it inaccessible to visitors and, particularly, free from dampness and insects.

Your Yoga room should not be so large as to leave you room for distraction, and not too cramped either. Select a cool to lukewarm spot in which you will not get easily exhausted, a place where you can practice comfortably, in all seasons. As far as possible, stick to one place for all your Yoga practices, because the place tends to absorb and retain your spiritual vibes. This is precisely why you are advised to not change spots and why you shouldn’t let any and everyone wander in and out of it. You would also be well advised to go in for a location where other Yoga students practice. This will boost up your interest and give you the much needed encouragement when you find your spirits flagging.

As far as possible have a flame and incense burn constantly in your room; these are known to keep the environment pollution free while adding to the positive vibes of the environment.

As far as Yoga poses are concerned, there are literally hundreds in the list. You had best visit the nearest Yoga institute, ashram, studio or center in the vicinity and learn the poses in the standing, sitting, supine, prone and inverted positions.
