Causes

Cervical spondylosis is a condition created by the degeneration of the disks and vertebrae in the neck that, in turn, put a significant amount of stress and pressure on the spinal cord in the neck. Like any kind of back or neck ache, depending on the intensity of the pain, it can have a very debilitating effect on a person’s daily life. The degeneration of the vertebrae and discs is a normal factor while a person continues to age. However, in the case of cervical spondylosis, this degeneration is more severe. During the degeneration process the discs will become thinner much like other parts of the body such as the bones, muscles and nerves. In order to fully understand the complications of cervical spondylosis - one must understand the structure of a cervical spine. The cervical spine is made up of small circular bones or vertebrae that are stacked up one on top of the other. Between each of these vertebrae lies a disc that performs the function of a shock absorber and allows the spine to be more flexible. The degenerative process of the vertebrae causes the edges to be rough - causing the nearby muscles, ligaments and nerves to become irritated.

Symptoms

The most significant symptom of the condition is a sharp pain in the neck that will spread to the base of the skull and shoulders. Any movement of the neck is likely to make the condition worse to some degree. The pain is not likely to be consistent but chronic, meaning that it will flare up from time to time, causing a significant amount of discomfort. Your friend is also likely to experience intense headaches from time to time that start from the back of the head and travel to the top of the forehead.

Treatment and Remedies

The natural treatment options for Cervical spondylosis are more centered around a change in lifestyle as well as dietary adjustments. Garlic is considered to be a very effective treatment option when it comes to Cervical spondylosis. Try squeezing out the juice from a couple of pods of garlic and consume the juice first thing every morning. Creating a mixture of lemon juice and salt is also known to be quite effective in containing the pain to a certain extent. It is essential that your friend avoids any physical exertion that will place some amount of stress on his neck as this will only serve to either worsen or delay the healing of the condition.
