When temperatures start falling and there are lesser daylight hours, then running in the outdoors becomes harder. At times one’s regular running and jogging gets hampered if one is not geared to move around in winter. However, for those who like to work out there are various options and steps to help make it an enjoyable experience. In fact it has been found that running during winter can help in elevating depression, increasing ones energy levels, getting one in better shape and keeping various illnesses at bay. Some of the main steps to running during winter include always paying attention to how high or low the temperature is fluctuating to. One should also make a note of the chill in the wind. When the wind is very strong it can actually penetrate through ones clothes. This can take away the warm air insulation that surrounds the person leaving them cold. When running during winter, the wind chill around one also increases due to the movement. If the wind chill is lower than minus 20, then it is advisable to work indoors on a treadmill.

When running in winter, another important step is to always make sure that ones hands and feet are protected suitably from the cold. If the hands and feet are not covered properly, it can cause one to lose almost 30 percent of their body heat. It is always advisable to wear mittens during the cold winter months. One could also put some disposable heat packs in their mittens. Even putting on socks made from fleece and wool can help in combating the cold and keeping one warm. Always wear bigger running shoes so that one can comfortably wear thicker socks and stockings. When dressing, one should wear many different layers. The first layer should preferably be a synthetic layer. This helps to wick sweat from ones body. Avoid cotton has it will retain the sweat and keep one feeling moist and wet. One can put on a middle layer made of polar fleece for protection. Always avoid over dressing as this can also leave the person feeling very hot if they move around a lot. If it gets too cold, then it is advisable to wear some kind of face scarf or mask. This helps in protecting the face and nose. Always wear a warm cap on the head to avoid loss of body heat from there.
