Insect Bites Or Bee Stings: Swelling Allergic Reactions

Most people have to deal with insect bites and although bee stings are not as common as other insect bites, they are fairly common. Bee stings could happen anywhere such as when you decide to have a picnic in the local park. The good news is that most of us will not have a serious reaction to the bee sting. At the same time, the pain that comes with such a sting can be very intense. This is usually the case when the stinger is still in your skin. Also, some individuals do have extreme problems after being stung by a bee. This is because people have different reactions to bee stings and in most cases the fear itself can be quite paralyzing. The problems caused by such bee stings typically occur around the area of the sting. One also has to worry about additional bees since the colony usually isn’t far behind. A cause for concern in the event of a sting would be an allergic reaction. In this case fatalities and grave medical complications resulting from the sting are very possible. However, bear in mind that the number of deaths in the United States on account of insect sting (and not just bee stings) allergic reactions is roughly a 100. If you happen to have multiple bee stings, it might be a good idea to check with your doctor even if you do not seem to be allergic. There is always the possibility that being stung by a number of bees can cause problems because the venom does pose a problem.

In the event of a bee sting, one should remain calm and see to it that the remnants of the bee like the stinger are taken out quickly. Remember that the sting is worse for the bee since many bees succumb to their deaths after a sting. Swelling is imminent so ice compresses can be availed of. Do not forget to wash the place where the bee has stung you. Vinegar can help the affected area and this can also be used with some baking soda. The two can be combined and the stinging site can be covered with the paste. Besides the reasons mentioned above, if you are dealing with a child or another individual with a poorer immune system such as older people, a doctor should be consulted. Breathing could be a problem is a child has been the victim of even just one bee sting.
