Japanese Reflexology For General Health

Reflexology is one involves the application of pressure to the feet and hands. It is a non-invasive form of alternative therapy that helps to improve general health. According to the principle of Reflexology, the various organs in our body correspond to specific areas on our hands and feet. By massaging the pressure points on our hands and feet, a reflexologist aims to stimulate the flow of energy to the corresponding body parts.

What Is Japanese Reflexology?

Early forms of reflexology were found in China, Egypt, Greece, and the Middle East. Japanese reflexology is a derivative of Chinese reflexology. Thus, much of the traditional Chinese theory is still used with only a few modifications.

Traditionally, Japanese reflexology focuses on your feet but can sometimes be extended to your hands and ears as well. Japanese reflexologists believe that an ailment occurs when there is an imbalance in the ‘Qi’, or universal energy that flows through the body. This energy is said to flow through the body along twelve energy lines or ‘meridians’. By stimulating the reflexology points along these meridians, an imbalance in this energy field can be corrected, thereby leading to a restoration of good health.

Before beginning any treatment, the reflexologist usually asks for your health history to make a complete assessment of your physical and mental state. The Japanese reflexologist traditionally uses only his or her hands to stimulate your hands and feet. The right side of your body is mapped onto your right hand or foot and the left side onto your left hand or foot.

Under this form of reflexology, there is a strong emphasis on percussions. Percussions drive vibrations into your hands and feet, and help relieve any obstruction in your energy flow. This deeply stimulates energy flow to various parts of your body.  The technique works because upon stimulating the nerve endings in your hands and feet, the corresponding body parts get stimulated too. Reflexologist also focus upon stroking your meridians in order to readjust and balance the functioning of your organs.

Japanese reflexology is being used to treat migraine, diabetes and asthma. Hormonal imbalances can be corrected through Japanese reflexology as well and it is extremely effective in combating psychological problems like stress and depression. This form of treatment generally relieves fatigue, boosts energy and has a relaxing effect on the body. You should also consume a healthy diet and partake of regular exercise along with reflexology. Moreover, if any medical condition persists, you should contact a doctor.
