Home Remedies For Stomach Cramping

Stomach cramps are painful squeezing sensations in the stomach and abdominal regions. The crescendo or the intensity of pain goes high and low, and these cramps don’t necessarily originate in the stomach.

There are various causes for stomach cramps including diarrhea, constipation, viral infection, food poisoning, stomach infection, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (or IBS, which causes immense pain), diarrhea or constipation, diverticulosis, lactose intolerance, overeating, intense exercise routines, depression, dysthymia (stomach ache), gastritis, anxiety, and sometimes severe ailments like colon cancer.

There are some easy to implement home remedies to cure stomach cramps that are especially persistent and terrible. These remedies are:

  • Hydrating the body: Constipation is a frequent cause of stomach cramps. If the ailment is caused due to constipation, the best solution is to drink lots of water. If you are suffering from this condition you are advised to drink more than a gallon of water every day.
  • Avoid consumption of other fluids: Stomach cramps may be caused due to infections. In such circumstances, patients are advised not to drink a lot of fluids other than water. Tea should also be avoided as it may lead to loss of water from body.
  • Consumption of fibrous foods: Consume foods with lot of fiber like salad, cabbage, and Milller’s bran. These fibers help to detoxify the stomach and cleanse it.
  • A mixture of a teaspoon each of ginger juice, mint juice, and lime juice with a pinch of black pepper can be consumed to alleviate pain.
  • The application of ginger juice around the navel and lower abdomen is one of the easiest remedies to cure stomach cramps.
  • The consumption of pomegranate seeds with salt and black pepper is also recommended.
  • Curd with a teaspoon of paste of fenugreek seeds is one of the best remedies to cure stomach cramps.
  • Consuming lemon tea with honey is also recommended as an effective home remedy for severe stomach cramps.
  • Regular exercise is essential to reduce stress and anxiety, which are some of the possible causes of stomach cramps.
  • You should also consume green leafy vegetables and a lot of fruits.
  • Avoid processed foods like chocolates and cheese.
  • Smoking and alcohol consumption are strictly prohibited.

Stomach cramps can be cured by these simple remedies, but the ailment may sometimes be caused by severe reasons like colon cancer. When this is the case, it is better to take the doctor’s advice and follow the prescribed medication.
