Yoga To Tone Your Muscles

Does Yoga Tone, Firm Buttocks And Build Muscles

Many people believe that yoga can only help you to increase their flexibility and strength. But that is not all, yoga when performed on regular basis can offer many physiological, psychological and biochemical benefits and yes it does help to increase your muscle strength. While performing yoga your own body provides resistance unlike any other traditional weight building exercises. However yoga might not help you to build that bulked up muscles like that of some body builders, it can certainly increase your muscular strength.

Many yoga postures are suppose to be performed very slowly, holding a particular pose for several breaths. This act of exercise is more challenging for your muscles than other exercises which involve fast moves. The muscles you develop while performing certain yoga poses are much elongated, this is because while you are strengthening them you are actually lengthening them simultaneously. On the other hand while performing weight training you actually isolate specific muscles of your body which leads to the development of short and tightened muscles.

So the best way to firm your body muscles including your arms and buttocks is to perform yoga as well as some weight training or muscle building exercises which focus on that particular muscle group (that is muscles in your arms and buttocks). As you are not over working any specific muscle group while performing yoga you are less likely to get injured. Moreover yoga can help to realign your muscles as they get more balanced. Thus besides its other benefits, yoga can help improve your over all muscle fitness.

You may use yoga as a primary exercise to build your body muscles or you may use yoga as a supplement along with other weight training exercises (specifically for buttocks and arms) to help your muscles become strong, fit and balanced. Certain yoga poses specific for building arm muscles and strength are downward facing dog pose or Adho Mukha Svanasana, crow pose or Bakasana, plank pose, upward facing dog pose or Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, firefly pose or Tittibhasana, side plank pose or Vasisthasana and four limbed staff pose or Chaturanga Dandasana. Certain yoga poses specific for building buttock muscles and strength are cobra pose or Bhujangasana, warrior pose or Virabhadrasana elevated upward bow pose or Urdhva Dhanurasana, inclined plane pose or Puvottanasana and half locust pose or Ardha Salabhasana. Try these poses along with few sessions of weight training in a week to build muscles in your arms and buttocks.
