What is Walking Pneumonia

By Patricia | July 23, 2009

Walking pneumonia is a lung infection that is caused by the bacteria, Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Pneumonia itself can be caused by a wide range of bacteria from streptococcus to staphylococcus and other virulent strains. These pathogens differ in their resistance to drugs, and in the manner of symptoms they show – in the progression of the disease. In all cases, pneumonia has to be treated comprehensively by administering antibiotics and ensuring that the patient takes complete rest for the entire period. In addition, there are home remedies that are quite effective in aiding the doctor’s prescription by fighting the disease causing bacteria and arresting inflammation.

Mycoplasma pneumonia’s virulence requires the use of very strong antibiotics like macrolide antibiotics, doxycycline and enhanced quinolones. What makes this strain of bacteria really potent is their ability to stop the body from producing mucus. Mucus is what causes the body to localize and stop infectious bacteria and viruses from spreading to further areas. This function along with the creation of a medium where the immune system’s white blood cells and other immune cells can move into makes mucus crucial as a part of the body’s defense system. Once the bacteria are inhaled, it lands on mucus secretions, it then feeds on the mucus and reproduces rapidly. This means that the primary places where the infection start is in the pharynx, or the back of the nose, causing pharyngitis. It further spreads to infect the bronchus or airway to the lungs, and finally the lungs.

Getting rid of this disease requires some of nature’s most potent microbe killers and the arsenal that you should use consist of tea tree oil, garlic, ginger, black pepper and chili peppers. Tea tree oil is a potent microbe killer that works on bacteria, fungi and viruses. This can be used as an additive to steam inhalations that must be inhaled many times a day. Garlic contains the antifungal and antibiotic agent, allacin. Mash the cloves, roll it to the size of a pill, and swallow three of these three times a day. Ginger should be had in a preparation of tea, with the dried flakes added to the tea, which should be consumed throughout the day. This acts to reduce fever. Black pepper and chili peppers should be added to the food you eat as it increases the body’s power to absorb other vital medicines and nutrients. Chili peppers cause mucus to be formed in huge quantities, which will trap the bacteria and make it easier to expel by coughing sputum.
