Causes and Treatment for Hemorrhoids (Piles) during Pregnancy

Piles or hemorrhoids are just one of the problems that affect a pregnant woman. But, just like many ailments during pregnancy, piles also get resolved shortly after delivery. The hormonal changes in the body cause poor flow of blood, and the pressure on the uterus causes constipation. These result in piles, which is aggravated by the uterine pressure slowing the blood flow, causing inflammation of the veins and also bleeding. But just because piles is a common occurrence during pregnancy and resolves after delivery, it doesn’t mean that the problem should be taken lightly. Because of the loss of blood and constipation, it can have a harmful effect on the body and the baby too. Hence, a lot of care needs to be taken about the kind of food a pregnant woman eats. This will prevent and treat piles.

The diet of a pregnant woman should include lots of green leafy vegetables and also fibrous fruits and vegetables to prevent constipation. Also, drinking lots of water is very beneficial for digestion and easing motions. These will not only prevent piles by easing stools but also ensure the proper removal of toxins in the body. During pregnancy, it is good to have some form of light physical exercise. This promotes blood circulation and also bowel movements. So, a pregnant woman must not miss her daily exercise regime. Walking, swimming or jogging for 30 minutes each day is good enough. Piles make passing stools a painful and problematic task. You can ease the pain while passing stools by lubricating your rectum. An effective and safe method would be applying a thick layer of virgin coconut oil to the area that becomes most painful while passing stool. Apply it before you go to the toilet. The lubrication of the rectum will make the passage easy and give relief from the pain.

Consuming fresh or dried figs twice a day will provide the nourishment and also ease stools. You can eat fresh figs or soak dried figs in warm water overnight and eat them in the morning and then in the evening to get relief from piles. But before eating the figs, make sure that they are thoroughly cleansed with hot water. Ginger is also helpful in various problems of the stomach. Mix half a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice with one teaspoon of fresh lime juice and mint juice each with a tablespoon of honey and consume it regularly to get relief from piles.
