Treating Gum Disease Naturally

Sore and bleeding gums are a sure warning sign that something’s wrong in your mouth. Sore gums may get fleshy and even swollen and the pain you feel is in no way comparable to what you may feel if you don’t remedy the condition immediately. Usually, gums bleed when there is a bacterial attack or tartar starts to build up in the mouth. If this is the case, it is easily identifiable since you can see the tartar on your teeth. The gums may start to recede and pockets will begin to form where the food particles get lodged and start decaying.

If you do not remedy it immediately or delay going to the dentist to get it checked, your condition may lead to periodontal disease. Your teeth will start loosening up and if it goes to extremes, they may start falling out.

Though sore gums are a common problem, they shouldn’t by any means be ignored. Sore gums may also plague those who wear false teeth.

The most common way to get rid of sore gums is to gargle with warm water and salt - repeat this twice everyday. The warm water soothes the gums while the salt acts as a disinfectant. You may also chew raw cabbage. It is believed that raw cabbage has many anti inflammatory properties and chewing cabbage can help relieve sore gums. You can also take out the juice of cabbage leaves instead and just rub on the sore gums.

Sore gums could also be cause by deficiencies. A deficiency of Vitamin C and B can cause scurvy where the gums get swollen and start bleeding. It is therefore, important to follow a healthy diet that contains all the necessary nutrients including vitamins and minerals.

Clove oil is widely recognized for having healing properties to cure all dental problems. Chew on a clove or apply clove oil on the effected area. However, be a little careful with the application of the oil. Clove oil is very strong and can damage the sensitive gum tissue. It is therefore best to dilute it with an equal amount of sweet almond oil before you use it. Soak a ear bud in clove oil and gently massage your gums with it.

You can also apply marigold tincture in the same manner. Home made mouthwashes, made from marigold or agrimony can be used to cure swollen and fleshy gums.

Use a home made toothpowder made from baking soda and salt. Apply this everyday on your teeth and gums to keep them healthy.
