Treating Fungal Infection Of Oral Mucosa

Fungal infections of the oral mucosa or the mouth are most commonly manifested in a disease called oral thrush. This is an infection by the candida fungus and is also found to infect other areas of the body like the genitals. The disease is manifested by symptoms that start from an inflammation of the back of the mouth and end up in white growths in the back of the mouth. The infection is very common in young adults and children but can occur in adults as well. Its occurrence in adults is usually because of some immune compromising factor like diabetes or other factors that can cause the oral mucosa to be weak like smoking. Therefore, the presence of the candida fungus growing in the mouth is a sign that your immune system also needs to be bolstered and it is not just the fungal infection that has to be eliminated. The oral mucosa is a collection of soft tissue that is very different from the outside skin of our bodies. Injury and drying up of the mucosa are problems that the mouth is very susceptible to and this further causes infections to come up. Despite this, the most, in terms of disease, that one would end up being exposed to is either a case of pharyngitis or a few dental problems.

Treating a fungal infection using modern medicine requires the use of antifungal drugs. One of the most wide-spectrum drugs that are used for this problem is miconazole. This is taken as a mouthwash and the residue swallowed. Some of the natural remedies that you can find around the house that can have the same effect are tea tree oil, garlic, basil, and hydrogen peroxide. Tea tree oil is very potent and should not be swallowed. It should just be used as a mouthwash and should not be swallowed. Garlic is one of the most unpleasant methods of dealing with this problem because the ideal method of using it requires you to bite into a raw clove of garlic. Garlic works topically as well as from within when swallowed as the active antifungal medicine circulates in the bloodstream. Basil leaves can be boiled, used as a mouthwash and swallowed. Hydrogen peroxide is also a useful mouthwash.

Boosting the immune system, being the other problem that you need to deal with, requires a supplementary intake of vitamin B, C, E and A
