What Is A Natural Cure For C.Diff Bacterial Infection? C.Diff Bacterial Treatment?

By Patricia | June 10, 2009

C. Diff or Clostridium difficile is a bacterium. The bacterium is generally acquired in hospitals and leads to bowel infection. The bacterium has a large number of strains, but not all are infectious. The infection caused by the bacterium is non-contagious. The infection commonly occurs when antibiotic treatment is on. This is because antibiotics may alter the bacterium balance of the colon (large intestine), thereby assisting the growth of Clostridium difficile.

The bacterium generally infects by damaging the lining of bowels, and in some cases forming spores so as to survive in external environmental conditions. The infection leads to diarrhea, which may be accompanied by fever and abdominal pain. In elderly patients, the infection may cause dehydration leading to grave consequences. In rare cases, there may be incidents of diseases like Pseudomembranous colitis.

There are several natural ways to cure the disease, some which include:

  • Maintaining personal hygiene is very crucial in curing this ailment.
  • Avoid consuming too many over the counter medicines.
  • An intake of probiotics in your diet is highly recommended to cure any ailment or infection caused by Clostridium difficile. A probiotic diet is rich in bacteria that are supposedly good for body.

The bacteria that form a component of a probiotic diet are Lactobacillus Casei, Streptococcus Thermophillus, and Lactobacilus Bulgaricus. These bacteria are also called friendly bacteria. A probiotic diet must include foods like Miso soup, soft cheese, yogurt, oats, honey, goat’s milk, and fruit.

  • Partake of a light diet and remember to include lots of juices and soups as your digestive system may not be in a condition to function at its usual pace.
  • The fluid content of your body must be maintained so as to negate the effect of loss of water caused by diarrhea. As such, water must be consumed in good amounts so as to prevent dehydration.

There are no home remedies to cure this infection as it is generally caused as a side effect of antibiotics and/or by the prevalence of unhygienic conditions, particularly in hospitals. As such, all efforts must be made to maintain hygiene in hospitals. Due care must be taken while using syringes and other equipment in hospitals.

The infection may take a severe form in elderly people on account of their weaker immune and digestive systems. As such, if you are getting on in your years do consult a doctor and follow the prescribed treatment. Do not opt for self medication to cure the infection.
