Yoga For Body Odor

Funny, people seem to have an obsession with smells. We spend hundreds of millions of dollars on fragrances and deodorants to prevent or cover up our own smells. I personally, like the smell of body odor. I actually find it attractive. But if you're not like me, which is quite possibly the case, here are some suggestions to help you solve the ubiquitous problem of body odor.

Some people are more susceptible to body odor and profuse sweating. Whether you're one of these unfortunate people or not, there are some simple things, Yogic practices, you can do to prevent unpleasant body odor.

Bathe twice daily

This practice is recommended and, to this day, followed by all Hindus, at least in India. Not for nothing, I must say. Work wonders on the body-mind syndrome as well as helps check day-long, night-long body odors. I suggest, contrary to popular perception, never powder after a bath. You only end up clogging your pores. Over time this could lead to more problems like acne and pimples.

Cleansing techniques

These you must try. Yogic kriyas like Vaman Dhauti and Shanka Prakshalana help rid the body of toxins and this helps cure you of BO quire fast. This is the best recommended therapy, I've found. Worked for me, dont see why it shouldnt help everyone.

Asanas

Sun salutation and a regular regimen of asanas in standing, sitting, reclining, prostate, and inverted positions help you sweat. They also activate and tone up the endocrine glands. Over time this regimen will definitely help control the situation.

Breathing exercises

These are best for detoxifying the body and real fast. Id suggest kapalabhatti, Anuloma-Viloma, Ujjayi, Brahmari and Bhastrika. Pranayama means controlling and chanelizing Prana (vital force) in the system. It helps flush out toxins pronto and gets the endocrine glands working and ship-shape real fast.

Diet

Watching what you eat will definitely help you control body odor. By this I mean a Sattvic, Yogic diet. Apparently, eating a lot of meat causes more BO than eating fruits and vegetables. Onions and garlic should be avoided as well, simply on account of the odor they exude. Coffee or any substance that contains caffeine will cause unnatural amounts of perspiration, too.

Yogic relaxation

This helps inhibit excessive perspiration. Shavasana, in particular, helps get your mind off of work and other stressful situations will be better for your health and your smelly armpits. They will not, however, convince your landlord to replace the cheap paneling in your room with drywall--anything to distinguish your apt. from a trailer home.Trust me, they work for me. And not just in getting rid of BO but for a whole load of healthy living benefits. After all, Yoga is all about holistic healing.
