The term is Adho Mukha Shavasana or the dog pose, which is also known as the dog tilt, has its center on the pelvis. It helps to stretch your back, opens your chest and builds the upper body strength. In addition to this it stretches the entire back of your body as well as the arms, shoulders, hips, hamstrings and heels. And if you let the ankles sink well to the floor in this asana you will be able to stretch your calves at the same time. During yoga practices the Adho Mukha Shavasana or the dog pose is often used as an exercise in between the other asanas or poses but it is in fact an asana or a pose in itself.

The name Adho Mukha Shavasana or the dog pose itself tells what kind of a pose this is and how it will go about. Adho Mukha Shavasana or the dog pose helps to improve breathing, remove fatigue, rejuvenates the entire body, and improves circulation of blood to your brain. It also helps to improve the flexibility of your spine, stretches your hips, lower and middle back and also helps in preventing back problems. You may improve this pose by bending your elbows and lowering your forearms to the floor.

For women the Adho Mukha Shavasana or the dog pose is very beneficial as it is an inverted asana or pose that increases the blood flow to the brain. At times due to fluctuating hormones women experience slight memory lapse, this pose helps to counteract the same. It helps in better blood circulation to your pelvis and also tones and lifts the uterus. You may want to rest your head on a pillow as that would make the pose more comfortable.

This asana or posture is not suitable for people who have had recent injuries on their hips, back, shoulders or arms. Those who suffer from high blood pressure should consult their doctors first before doing any kind of exercise. There are many people who experience the Adho Mukha Shavasana or the dogs pose as a moment of rest between difficult yoga asanas or poses. But when you are doing this, you must try to remain focused both mentally and physically and continue working out the asana or the pose further to get maximum benefit from this asana and from yoga in general.
