Causes Of Hypothyroidism

In hypothyroidism your body is deficient in the thyroid hormone. The key function of thyroid hormone is to manage the metabolism of the body. The second rather familiar causes of hypothyroidism are:

  1. Autoimmune thyroiditis is the most predominant cause of failure of the thyroid gland. This is a sort inflammation of the thyroid gland attributable to one's own immune system
  2. The 2nd major cause falls under the general class of “medical treatments.”

Treatment of hyperthyroidism normally calls for extraction of a part or the whole thyroid gland surgically. If the remaining thyroid producing cells in the body cannot meet the body’s needs, the person is known to suffer from hypothyroidism. Naturally, if you suffer from hypothyroidism you will have problems related to a slow metabolism.

PCOD (Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease) is a health condition that affects women’s menstrual cycles. It also affects their fertility, production of insulin, heart functioning, condition of the blood vessels and, finally, their whole appearance. Women suffering from PCOD (Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease) normally exhibit the following characteristics:

  • They have abnormal levels of male hormones. These are also called androgens
  • Their menstrual cycles are irregular or absent
  • They usually develop a number of small cysts (fluid-filled sacs) in the ovaries. Alternately, some women don’t develop cysts but still suffer from PCOD.

So, basically PCOD (Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease) is a rather common problem in women involving hormonal reproduction at the childbearing age. It is estimated that 5 – 10% percent American women (of childbearing age) suffer from PCOD (Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease).

Yoga Programs

Coming down to brass tacks the Yoga program for handling both hypothyroidism and PCOD (Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease) would include:

1. Yogasanas (Yoga postures) in the following positions

  • Standing
  • Sitting and
  • Supine.

Steer clear of inverted and prone poses under all circumstances

2. You should practice lots of Pranayama (Yoga breathing exercises). Start with slow, simple breathing through both nostrils. Do it in the proportion of 1:2. Meaning to say inhale for 5 counts and exhale in 10. Next, learn to do and practice Anuloma-Viloma (Alternate Nostril Breathing) and Ujjayi (Ocean Breath) Pranayama (Yoga breathing exercises).

3. Plenty of Shavasana (the Corpse Pose) twice or thrice daily. PCOD (Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease), even if it may be a genetic condition, can be checked in its tracks through the regular practice of relaxation.

4. Have a Sattvic (pure and simple), Yogic diet that is mainly vegetarian. Make sure to avoid fatty and spicy foodstuffs and include lots of fruits and salads in your diet.

5. Avoid unnecessary, unwarranted anxiety and tensions. You aren’t helping yourself at all by worrying about your condition.
