Yoga For Fistulas Treatment

I had Surgery of Fistula on 02-oct-2008. When should I start Doing Yoga. and what yoga should I do?

What Is Fistula

Fistula is the name given to an abnormal channel that links two cavities in your body (like your vagina and rectum). One cause of fistula is from the result of an abscess. This is a pouch of pus in any part of your body which constantly fills with your own body fluids like excreta or urine. The result is that this constant dampening and wetting hampers the healing process. Fistulas mostly occur in and around the region of the anus and genitals (also called the perineum). So an anal fistula would be an abnormal tunnel between your genitals and anus.

Symptoms Of Fistula

  • Continuous or irregular discharge.
  • Solid-stiff lump.
  • Pain felt during or after passing stools.
  • Bruise-like-structures surrounding the skin around the fistula.

Causes

  • Wearing away of tissue due to spreading of abscess.
  • Growth of infection as a result of tear in anal lining of anal canal.
  • Rectal infection

Symptoms

Pain, tenderness in the area, fever and itching. There may also be pus or a putrid discharge. These symptoms vary, based on the severity and location of the fistula.
Anal fistulas are quite common in those who’ve had anal abscess. You must treat an anal fistula to lessen chances of infection. This also relieves other symptoms.

Diagnosis

It is easy to detect the outer aperture of the anal fistula. However, locating the inner cavity is a little more complicated. And yet, it is critical to know the complete path of the fistula if effective treatment is to be administered.

Yoga for Fistula

Yoga has been known to treat Fistulas effectively. The causes, once identified are not difficult to treat. Another cause of Fistulas that Yoga suggests, and that medical science only considers a subsidiary cause is stress. This is why Yoga lays so much emphasis on relaxation. The following program of Asanas (Yoga poses), Pranayama (Breathing exercises), Kriyas (cleansing techniques) and Sattvic (Pure and Simple) Yoga Diet is bound to produce amazing results

Asanas (Yoga Poses)

Do all the Yogasanas (poses) you can with more emphasis on

  • Inverted postures, and
  • Prone postures

Pranayama (Breathing Exercises)

These are breathing exercises designed to cool and calm the mind while supplying the body with the all-important bio-energy or Prana. The following breathing exercises are suggested

  • Mild Kapalabhatti
  • Anuloma-Viloma

Sattvic (Pure and Simple) Yoga Diet

Finally, don’t put more stress on your digestive system by having heavy foods. Switch to a Sattvic Yogic diet, one that is predominantly vegetarian, low on salt and spices, high in fiber, salads and fruit.
