Effective Cardio Exercises

When we think cardio, we normally think of exercises such as running, swimming, or cycling. However, there are a plethora of other exercises that are equally effective as cardio exercises.

Some Most Popular Indoor Cardio Workouts

Aerobics: The word aerobic means with oxygen. Aerobics originated in the USA in the 1970’s. This form of exercise involves performing rhythmic movements to fast paced beats, in a style similar to dancing. Aerobics is one of the most popular forms of cardio and there are many gyms and studios where you can learn aerobics. Aerobics has routinely been endorsed by many celebrities and you can also pick up DVD’s with aerobics workouts designed by these celebs.

Elliptical: An elliptical trainer is like a combination of skinning and pedaling. It is so called because it has big pedals that are attached to a giant elliptical shaped wheel. It also has two handholds that move in tandem with the pedals. An elliptical trainer is one of the best gym equipments for obtaining a full body workout. These trainers also come with different resistance levels that increase the intensity of the exercise. Modern elliptical trainers also come with inbuilt monitoring programs that track your pulse, and provide you with custom made workouts.

Treadmills: Treadmills are the perfect option for those who don’t like running outdoors. These amazing machines have been a staple of gyms for decades. Modern day treadmills offer numerous features such as real time monitoring of the heart rate and pulse, the ability to design customized workouts, and options to adjust the speed and the incline.

Tae Bo: Tae Bo is a relatively recent fitness phenomenon. The word Tae Bo is actually a combination Taekwondo and Boxing. Tae Bo combines elements of both these sports and sets it to fast paced music. Tae Bo is an excellent, energetic workout, and will help you to lose weight and build your stamina. Do keep in mind that due to its intensity, Tae Bo is not for the fainthearted.

Spinning: Spinning is another recent phenomenon in the world of cardio exercises. This exercise is performed on traditional stationery cycles, but it gives a new twist to this old equipment. In spinning the pace is constantly varied to emulate the experience of actually cycling outdoors. This is an intensive interval training workout that builds up stamina and endurance and really burns off the calories.
