Extreme Menstrual Cramps Relief

By Patricia | August 20, 2009

Before you embark upon a battery of remedial measures to relieve yourself of the pain that typically accompanies the menstrual cycle, please be aware of one simple fact: while you may lessen them, it will never be possible to completely get rid of them altogether. If you have strong pains and cramps, then there are ways you can adopt to lessen the intensity of this pain. One of the first things to know is that you need to follow a regular routine of physical exercise. Exercise will always be of help in regulating your body’s inner mechanisms to work at an optimal level. In particular, exercise will help to strengthen your musculature and will help you to deal with any and all kinds of pain more effectively and easily. Please know that you will not see results after exercising for a week or two. It will take at least a year before you experience positive and noticeable changes caused due to exercise. This is a holistic approach which will have long standing effects, rather than short term relief. The other thing you can do for your cramps and pains is to apply hot compresses to the area where the pain is worst. You can use a hot water bag or even an electric heat pad for this purpose. This will be very useful in providing relief.

Taking hot liquids and food is also very useful in dealing with cramps. Soups, tea and comfortably hot milk should be taken regularly in order to feel the comfort from within the body. You should also try to avoid alcohol consumption when you are suffering from menstrual cramps. Generally, it is better to avoid consuming alcohol when you have your monthly period. It is also a good idea to not smoke when you have your period. Try to eat well and on time. A lot of women tend to neglect their food and deviate from eating patterns when they are suffering from menstrual cramps. This is also a reason for the cramps to become worse rather than to get relief. You should eat well so that you can sleep well. It is also very important that you get an adequate amount of sleep and rest when you are having your period. This will alleviate the suffering from menstrual cramps considerably. It is also a myth that you need not exercise when you are suffering from your period. Please continue with your exercise routine.
