Especially in cases of severe symptoms, medical examination is necessary so that underlying conditions such as lupus and multiple sclerosis may be ruled out. If such conditions are suspected, you may be advised to consult with a rheumatologist for imaging tests and blood analysis.

Most cases of inflammation in the muscles occur due to overexertion. This may take place during sports activities or exercise. In such cases, most individuals resort to application of ice packs. These oils are known to have anti-inflammatory properties which aid in healing inflamed muscles. Intake of omega 3 fatty acids through fish oil supplements are also believed to work well in relieving inflammation. Clove oil is a popular remedy for muscle aches and pains. Application of a clove oil poultice will help to reduce inflammation and pain. Garlic possesses anti-inflammatory properties and hence is beneficial in treating muscle strains. Garlic may be rubbed onto the affected muscle or garlic oil may be massaged to the area. Another effective home remedy for muscle inflammation is pepper and sesame oil. Fry some powdered pepper in sesame oil and apply the paste over the inflamed muscle. This remedy is even effective in cases of arthritis. Immersing the affected area in a bath of Epsom salts and warm water is also known to help in easing inflammation. You can even use any form of ginger to treat muscle inflammation as ginger is known to be effective in healing inflamed and aching muscles.
