Home Remedies To Cure Earache

Your ear pain can be caused in two different parts of the ear, internal or external. Internal pain arises from behind the eardrum and is more serious, while external pain is felt mainly in the ear canal. Internal aches are usually caused by fluid buildup in the inner ear that causes pressure to build up. Such a condition can feel worse if accompanied by a cold or sore throat. External earaches are usually caused when water or fluids are trapped in the ear canal. This can happen by submersion in water, such as swimming or bathing. In addition to the pain, you may also experience some minor hearing loss, blocked sensation or buzzing sounds. If, however, you notice any form of fluid discharge, please see a doctor immediately, since you may have an inner ear infection. Also, avoid inserting any foreign objects in your ear, even if you feel itchiness or irritation in the ear canal.

If your earache is relatively minor, there are several home remedies that can help relieve the pain. One of the most common methods for pain relief is to use hot compresses. Take a towel or similar absorbent cloth and soak it in hot water or warm it using an iron. Hold this cloth against the affected ear and you will experience effective relief. Some people also prefer to have a hot shower where the steam enters the ear canal. If you are suffering from a cold, the earache could be due to the pressure caused by nasal congestion. In this case, you will want to try some natural decongestions such as inhaling steam from water boiled with a couple of drops of eucalyptus or tea tree oil.

Another popular home remedy for earaches involves the use of various oils that can be inserted into the ear. One method uses a cup of extra virgin olive oil mixed with a finely chopped garlic clove and 3-4 drops of tea tree oil. Keep the mixture sealed in a jar for at least one week to extract the active ingredients. Then you need to strain the oil carefully to remove all pieces of garlic. The clear oil can then be stored in a dry place for use as required. It is recommended that you lightly warm the oil before putting 4-5 drops into the affected ear. Allow the oil to stay inside for about ten minutes before draining it out. Such oils are also useful in naturally cleaning any excessive earwax.
