Brown spots, also known as age spots or liver spots are a rather common occurrence among many people. It is mainly the result of growing age. Age spots occur anywhere on the body but are mostly seen in areas that are exposed to the sun. For most people these spots can be really embarrassing to look at. Brown spots are primarily the result of tremendous exposure to the sun. There is a substance present underneath the surface of the skin known as melanin that gives our skin its color. It is extremely useful as it absorbs the ultraviolet rays from the sun but an excess exposure causes an over production of melanin due to which the skin darkens. This then results in the formation of brown spots. They mostly appear on the face, hands, back, throat, chest, shoulders and upper back and are generally reddish or brown in color and vary in size. They can be large spots that can be light or dark and can appear in people even at the age of 30. There are a couple of home remedies that you could use to try and get rid of brown spots on the skin.

Home Remedies

Lemon is a great way to deal with brown spots as it is a bleaching agent that helps in lightening the spots and you can directly apply the juice of lemon on the age spots. You can also apply sour lemon cream on the brown spots as a mask, leave it for sometime and then remove it with a tissue followed by applying a moisturizer. Application of sour milk and washing it off later also helps treat this condition as the lactic acid present enables the skin to peel off gently. Castor oil can be applied on the brown spots or you could even apply olive oil or vitamin E oil on the spots before going to bed. Castor oil is known to go deep down into the skin which in turn helps to lighten the spots. You can try mixing 2 tablespoons of onion juice with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and apply this mixture on your spots till they begin to fade. Be careful if the brown spots are slowly changing in color or texture as it may not be brown spots and could be indicating cancer. Precaution is the best way to treat age spots and therefore, each time you get out in the sun, cover yourself well and apply a good sunscreen without fail.
