Avoid Milk For Gastritis Relief

By Patricia | September 24, 2009

Milk should be avoided as much as possible when you are suffering from gastritis as it can worsen the condition. Milk contains lactic acid that can result in more pain. However, if a person suffers from hyperacidity along with gastritis, a glass of chilled milk will bring instant relief from heartburn. But you must
eat something within minutes of consumption of the milk as milk stimulates more secretion of acid if the stomach has been empty.

Gastritis Ginger

Even if milk is bad for gastritis, there are other products that will bring you relief. Ginger and garlic are two spices that are very beneficial for someone suffering from gastritis. You can have small pieces of ginger before meals or soak the pieces in lemon juice and chew them after every meal. This will stimulate digestion and also get rid of gas. You will not face the problem of gastritis if you consume potato juice before meals. Mixing 200 ml of spinach juice and 300 ml carrot juice and having it regularly also deals with the problem effectively. You will get relief in a few hours if you consume coconut water as it brings the stomach back to its normal state. The foods that you can also consume are rice gruel, lemon juice, and lots of water and other fluids.

Home Remedies

However, it would be best if you prevented the problem and kept it away for good. One suffers from gastritis when there is a disorder in the stomach lining, which leads to indigestion of the food and liquid collected in the stomach. Since the food gets broken down but not digested, it accumulates and causes inflammation, infection, and irritation in the stomach. If the problem of gastritis is not treated soon, it can lead to ulcers too. There are many reasons for someone suffering from gastritis. The problem is caused by an excessive intake of spicy, oily, gassy, and junk food. Other than that, excessive consumption of alcohol, tea, coffee, and condiments and pickles are also responsible for the problem. Also, if one has bad eating patterns like erratic hours and overeating, he is likely to suffer from gastritis. Stress and mental tension also contribute to the problem. To avoid gastritis, you must eat small portions at regular intervals instead of large meals, and you must not eat too late in the afternoon or at night. Consume more fresh fruits and vegetables and if you must garnish your food, use garlic instead of pickles or condiments. Avoid junk food and oily food too.
