Yoga for weight loss - The simplest yoga posture for weight loss

Yoga can help you to have and maintain a trim and healthy body. The various breathing techniques of Pranayama and the yoga poses, are very beneficial in helping you to shed extra weight, especially in the abdominal area, and also to keep your weight in check.

Unlike crash diets or medications, yoga is the safest way to shed extra flab, and if practiced meticulously and properly is unlikely to cause any complications. It acts upon the endocrine system, and triggers the various glands to perform better, thus helping weight reduction. In fact, it also helps develop better muscle tone, increases one’s energy levels and induces a complete lifestyle change.

The deep breathing techniques of Pranayama (breath exercises) help to increase intake of oxygen and improve circulation. The increase in levels of oxygen helps to burn fat cells and thus reduces weight.

Yoga poses also reduce anxiety and stress levels, which are often a major cause for over-eating and obesity. The deep breathing techniques encourage one to eat slowly and develop patience to chew food carefully. In this way, you eat smaller quantities, as opposed to those who swallow their food in a hurry and thus end up consuming more, which leads to weight gain.

Yoga poses stimulate many of the endocrine glands such as the thyroid, The enhanced  secretions encourage better metabolism, which lead to weight loss. Digestion and waste elimination systems are also invigorated by yoga, thus leading to better health and weight.

Yoga poses: If you have gained a lot of weight due, especially due to Hypothyroidism, you will benefit by doing the Fish Pose (Matsyasana) and the Shoulder Stand (Sarvangasana), since they have a beneficial effect in stimulating the secretions of the thyroid gland. Better secretions of hormones aid in better digestion and elimination, as well increase one’s energy levels. This encourages you to be more physically active, and thus lose more weight.

Other yoga poses helpful for losing extra flab are the Warrior Pose (Veerasana), Bow Pose (Dhanurasana), Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana), Half Lord of the Fishes Pose (Ardha Matsyendrasana), Plough Pose (Halasana), Seated Forward Bend (Paschimottanasana) and Triangle Pose (Trikonasana).

The Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar) is also very effective for reducing weight.

Pranayamas or breath techniques: You should also practice pranayamas or breath exercises, since the extra intake of oxygen will invigorate the mind as well as the muscles of the body, thus helping you to lead a more active and energetic lifestyle.

The Alternate Nostril Breathing (Anuloma-Viloma), Kapalbhati (Mind rejuvenation exercise) and Bellows (Bhastrika) are recommended. Along with this try Three-Part Breath (Dirga Pranayama), Ocean Breath (Ujjayi) and Cooling Breath (Shitali Pranayama). All of these infuse the body with extra oxygen. You should also do some Kriyas which clean the body and thus reduce weight.

Diet: A nutritious but fat-free diet must also be followed

Frequency: the exercises must be done at least 3 times in a week to be truly effective.
