What Are Good Simple Yoga Poses To Do Before Bed

This is a very interesting question. The brilliance of Yoga is that you can practice these exercises throughout the day. Be it your bed, office space or living room, Yoga can be done just about anywhere and at anytime. No equipment and no long workouts. All you need to spare is a little time and motivation.

Yoga is a rare combination of working on your body, mind and soul in complete sync. When one performs Yoga, he is not only relaxing his various muscle groups but also conditioning the mind and bringing calmness to the soul. This is precisely why Yoga becomes even more important before going to bed. The reason is simple, a good relaxing good night sleep. Here are a few Yoga techniques before going to bed. Doing them on a regular basis will definitely bring your stress levels down and give you a rejuvenating sleep after a long day at work.

The poses which will be particularly beneficial before you go to bed are a mix of various Asanas (poses) and Pranayamas (breathing exercise). Start with poses like:

  • Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend)
  • Prasarita Padottanasana (Wide-Legged Standing Forward Bend)
  • Janu Sirshasana (Head-to-Knee Pose)
  • Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog Pose).

But what’s more important is that you need to calm your mind and nerves before sleep. Pranayama (breathing exercise) helps you to relax your mind and body through various exercises, which focus on your breathing patterns along with deep meditation.

Shabad Kriya (Bedtime Meditation) is a simple technique, which basically involves meditation and breathing techniques in various poses. Simply start by sitting in the Buddha Mudra position (palms up, right hand resting on top of left). Your eyes play a major role in Yoga. Keep your eyes partially closed and focus at the tip of your nose. This helps primarily in keeping your mind focused and at the same time also helps in recognizing your breathing patterns, which is extremely critical in Yoga. The breathing has to be rhythmic, starting with inhaling through the nose in 4 equal parts and exhaling in 2 equal parts. This can also be supported with chanting and reciting hymns.

These are just some of the techniques, which can be performed before going to bed. There are yet so many that we can explore with Yoga. So the next time if you’ve had a long day at work or feeling stressed out due to the daily chores, remember there is a remedy, which is a sure-shot formula to give you the sleep you truly deserve.
