I am 32 years of age and suffering irregular periods, sometimes gap extend to 5 months, how to regularize it with remedies at home?

Menstruation is a natural process that women undergo throughout the reproductive stage of their lives. A standard menstrual cycle is twenty eight days. This, however, can vary from person to person, sometimes ranging from twenty four to thirty four days. In the first two to three years of experiencing menstrual cycles, it is not unusual to have oligomenorrhea commonly referred to as irregular periods. However, irregular periods at the age of 30 could be a cause for worry. A lack of ovulation is the primary cause for this disorder. Irregular periods are also a symptom of approaching menopause and premature menopause is a condition that many women experience. Illness, medication, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal changes, stress or rapid variations in weight could also attribute to irregular menstrual cycles. Disorders affecting the thyroid gland are another common cause for irregular periods. In those who are sexually active, pregnancy also contributes to an absence of menses.

Natural Remedies

Unhealthy and irregular eating habits play a vital role in causing irregularities in the bodily functions. A balanced diet and regular meals ensure that the body is healthy, thus ensuring a regular menstrual cycle. Fresh fruits and vegetables along with nuts, lean meats and dairy products help in keeping the body in shape. Seafood, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, is believed to be beneficial in regulating the menstrual cycle. Macafem regulates the production of hormones resulting in the regularization of irregular periods. Ginger, fenugreek seeds and sesame seeds are also believed to aid uterine bleeding. Alcohol and tobacco should be avoided as they affect blood circulation and delay menstruation. Drinking plenty of water is recommended as water is required for the production of blood and flushing out of impurities from the body. Carrot juice is also recommended for regularizing menstrual bleeding. Snake gourd, white pumpkin, bitter gourd and drumsticks are recommended for easing the pain and discomfort that accompany delayed menses.

Relaxation and sleep play an important role in regulating bodily functions. Regular exercise is essential for maintaining a healthy body but overexertion and stress should be avoided as they have the ability to delay the bleeding. Consulting a gynecologist, at the earliest, is recommended to rule out any serious complications especially if the irregular periods are accompanied with heavy, sore breasts, severe abdominal pain, cramps or stiffness in the back, headaches, mood swings, bloating, acne breakouts and an inability to sleep soundly. Depending on the condition, the gynecologist may prescribe hormone pills to regulate the flow of menstrual blood.
