Clogged Ear Remedy
Frequent fliers and avid swimmers know how irritating a clogged ear can be. The constant sensation in the ear can be quite bothersome. Since the ear, nose and throat are all connected together through blood vessels and the Eustachian tube, clogging of the ear can produce discomfort in the other two organs too.
Though clogging of the ear is quite a common occurrence, it can be a symptom some serious maladies. Clogging of the ears could be a symptom of something as common as a cold to severe allergies or even high blood pressure. If the clogged ear is due to an infection, it must be treated immediately. If this problem is neglected the infection can spread and even cause permanent loss of hearing in the ear.
If the clogging of the ear is mild, an after effect of a recent air journey or a scuba diving trip, there are many home remedies that can help you. However, for a more severe problem, it is best that you see a specialist at once and get proper treatment.
The simplest and most common way of unclogging your ear is chewing sugarless gum. The action of chewing and the pressure generated by it is enough to open up the Eustachian tube and allows the pent up pressure in the ear to get slowly released.
Swallowing repeatedly is another way to help open clogged ear. Simply take a glass of warm water and swallow it in small gulps, taking your time. If you need quick relief, use a dropper to pour a few drops of warm olive oil into your ear.
Steam has been used on many occasions to unclog ears. You can use either a humidifier in your room for an hour before you sleep or take a hot shower and remain in the shower room for some time after your bath. The steam will slowly loosen up the ear wax or whatever it is that is clogging your ear. Steam may also help relieve the pressure in the inner part of the ear.
Another method that a lot of people swear by is the use of hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide is of course diluted before being used. Use some warm water and mix equal amount of hydrogen peroxide to it. Use a dropper to pour several drops of this solution into your ear. Do it carefully though, you don’t want to pour in too much of water too. The warm water and hydrogen peroxide solution causes the ear wax to melt and be easily removed.
