To achieve fat loss one needs to begin with an exercise that will allow for direct fat burning. It must also gradually improve fitness levels. This is so that more intensive calorie burning workouts may be performed later on to quicken weight loss. Keeping all these factors in mind, it becomes clear that walking is one of the best exercises to lose weight permanently. Although a large amount of calories are not burnt while walking, there are other benefits such as improved health and fitness, reduction in health risks, enhanced energy levels and higher amount of burned fat. The other advantage of walking is that it is easy to do and does not require any special equipment.

People who are overweight or those who live mostly sedentary lifestyles usually have a lower fitness level. The lack of exercise over a period of time reduces the efficiency of the muscles of the body. These individuals also have lower energy levels. Therefore many of the exercises involved in weight loss programs become too intense for them. Jogging and running are also great ways to burn off excess calories. But these can also be rather demanding on individuals that are not very fit. When exercises are too intense, the body tends to burn too many carbohydrates. The burning of fat takes place efficiently when exercises involve lesser exertion. In jogging, the individual may attempt to overcome present limits so that he has the experience of a complete workout. But if the heart rate increases too much, a large amount of fat will not get burned. Walking allows the body to exercise at a consistent and steady rate and this promotes effective fat burning. Other activities such as soccer or tennis involve high bursts of energy for short periods of time, followed by periods of normal pace. This allows the body to go back to utilizing carbohydrates for energy. Since walking is gradual and constant, it keeps the body in permanent fat burning mode during the entire exercise. It therefore allows for fat loss even in individuals who do not have very high fitness levels.
